Sweet Scissor Sheath - by Marcia DeCoster

I’m a lover of nice tools and I love giving them their own little piece of art when storing them.  This sweet little scissor sheath does the job nicely for the teeniest of scissors.  Cutting out three shapes of cork, the top loop is lined and folded over to snap onto the heart and hold your scissors securely.
To fancy it up, because a bit of fancy never hurt, a pretty rivoli is bezeled with just two rows of Hubble stitch and tad bit of embellishment.  If you don’t know Hubble stitch then you’re in for a treat learning this versatile stitch, and if you do then you’re ahead of the game.
With your cork cut out, snaps applied and rivoli bezeled and stitched on, you’ll turn your attention to the edge stitching.  I’ve chosen a picot edge with a contrast size 11, completing the top front with a solid color in both 11’s and 15’s.

Kits are $34 each and will be available in a few colorways.
Kits include

  • Cork
  • Template for cutting
  • 14mm rivoli
  • Embellishment beads for rivoli
  • Seed beads to complete edge stitching

Many of you already have the Teeny tiny scissors from BDR gifts or by purchasing at the Designer Showcase.  If you need a pair Beki will have them for sale.  Or you could use any other teeny tiny scissor of your choice.

Please bring:

  • Beading surface

  • Size 11 needle
  • 6 lb smoke fire line
  • Beeswax (teacher will bring some to share)

In Flight - by Carrie Tahquechi

For as long as I can remember, I have been intrigued with the little beings we share our world with. Little dogs, kittens, birds, insects and more. I think it’s the movement of their wings, tails or parts that make me particularly happy. Throughout my beading journey I have created many little animals, flowers, and bugs out of beads. Lately I have been focusing my work on bead embroidery. I love the way the beads can be transformed into faces and bodies. I was unhappy though, that many times I got carried away and beaded outside the lines this did not create a beautiful edge to my animals. To combat these often-wonky shaped beings I used our 3D printer to create frames to bead in.  The 3D printed frame allows you to bead to your heart’s content inside the frame. Finishing is quick work with the frame as an outer edge, the shape stands out in a perfect line.

With the In Flight class samples I knew I wanted to focus on beading the creatures and then have a small pendant base to highlight each one. Two rivoli’s with peyote bezels that quickly turn into sparkly flowers bring a bit of nature and sparkle into the pendant. The pendant hangs from a simple strung neckband that is finished with chain for adjustability. I added a dangle to the front for a little bit of motion and drama. Your choice of Bee, Butterfly, or Hummingbird will be available in class, in a few color choices each.
